Yu Gao, PhD, is Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the UIC College of Pharmacy. He joined UIC in 2018, and the Gao Lab focuses on highly sensitive single-cell proteomics and multi-omics methods to detect and investigate cancer heterogeneity and biomarkers. The primary research interests of his laboratory are to develop novel chemical and computational tools to investigate the proteome and complex biological system. Methods developed by the Gao Lab could be used to characterize a single circulating tumor cell and perform liquid biopsy with ultra-high sensitivity. These methods will help us obtain better biomarkers with diagnostic and prognostic value, thereby enhancing our ability to predict and prevent cancer development and metastasis.
