The Respiratory Health Association (RHA) has awarded University of Illinois Cancer Center member Jing Liu, PhD, its 2024 Lung Cancer Research Award, which includes $100,000 to support research focused on understanding the mechanisms that regulate lung inflammation and injury.
Part of the Cancer Center’s Translational Oncology Research Program, Liu’s research focuses on targeting the gene regulator Miz-1, which promotes tumor growth and suppresses the immune response. Blocking Miz-1 can slow tumor growth and enhance immune cell infiltration, offering promising new treatment strategies for lung cancer, according to the RHA news release.
At UIC, Liu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago.
