Saanvi Sethi, a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Biomedical Engineering and mentored in the lab of University of Illinois Cancer Center Deputy Director VK Gadi, MD, PhD, won first place for her scientific poster in the undergraduate division at the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin of Queens and Long Island (AAPI-QLI) Eighth Research Competition.
She presented her poster, “Development and Validation of Murine Breast Cancer Model for HER2 Low MBC,” at the AAPI-QLI Research Day in New York on October 27. HER2 low MBC is low human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-expressing metastatic breast cancer. HER2 is a protein involved in cell growth.
Sethi is part of the Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions (GPPA) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), which allows students to be admitted to UIC with guaranteed admission to one of several graduate or professional degree programs. Sethi is also minoring in Spanish.
In Gadi’s lab, Sethi was also mentored by Research Assistant Professor Maria Jose Godoy Calderon, PhD, and Senior Research Specialist Eric Gauchat.
