Meryem Muge Karaman, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Center for Magnetic Resonance Research at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago. She joined UIC in 2014. Her research focus is to develop quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques for the characterization of complex biological tissue and integrate these techniques into computational models for accurate diagnosis and staging of cancer, and early prediction of tumor response to therapy. She has co-authored numerous research studies focused on investigating the microstructural changes in human brain and body, related to various diseases such as type 2 diabetes, glioma, sleep apnea, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, gastrointestinal stromal tumor and bladder urothelial carcinoma.
