Dr. Andre Kajdacsy-Balla is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He is a board certified pathologist with 30 years of hospital-based general diagnostic surgical pathology. Half of his time effort is spent in the University Hospital as a surgical pathologist and the other half is spent working in translational research projects where basic scientists need a collaborator to bring their discoveries to clinical applications.
Currently he is a collaborator on six federally funded such projects. He serves as a pathology consultant to Drs. Tu, Boppart and LiveBx in ou quest to bring to the clinic this instrument. I have been working together on similar projects for several years and know that it can be useful especially for prognostic purposes. With other members of Dr. Boppart’s department, Dr. Bhargava, Dr. Popescu and Dr. Kajdacsy-Balla currently have more than 15 publications.
He has also helped several other investigators on the area of cancer histology for their grants in the last 15 years. Besides supporting other investigator’s grants, his own laboratory is currently engaged in research on gene expression oncology data mining and in the effect of metal ions such as selenium, cadmium, zinc, and iron on cancer progression.
