When cancer center representatives from around the country gathered in Washington for the 2024 Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) and American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) annual Hill Day, University of Illinois Cancer Center Director Jan Kitajewski, PhD, and Cancer Center member Shikha Jain, MD, FACP, were among them.
AACI/AACR Hill Day advocacy efforts focus on federal funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Cancer Institute (NCI) because cancer centers need stable and predictable funding to advance cancer research and care. Hill Day was May 16.
The evening before Hill Day, Illinois Senator Richard Durbin and Virginia Represenatative Rob Wittman were honored with Cancer Research Ally Awards. The award recognizes members of Congress for their support of and advocacy for cancer research.
Durbin has been a staunch advocate for medical and cancer research in Illinois and across the nation.
