Exosomes are produced by cells and released into their environment. In animal models, they found that exosomes are decreased in males. Exosomes are also decreased in females with a loss of dynamin, a protein involved in membrane trafficking. The effect of age and gender is being investigated. Potential applications could include cancer treatment, usage for drug delivery or as markers for drug resistance.
