Yolande Chen, MD, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Clincal Medicine in the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago. She is a physician with a clinical focus on gastrointestinal (GI) cancers and a site Principal Investigator (PI) for clinical trials. Exosomes are produced by cells and released into their environment. In animal models, they found that exosomes are decreased in males. Exosomes are also decreased in females with a loss of dynamin, a protein involved in membrane trafficking. The effect of age and gender is being investigated. Potential applications could include cancer treatment, usage for drug delivery or as markers for drug resistance.
