The Carbone Cancer Center at the University of Wisconsin will host December’s Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium’s Grand Rounds on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. Dustin Deming, MD, associate professor of hematology-oncology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, and Melissa Skala, PhD, professor of biomedical engineering in UW’s College of Engineering, will present information on “Patient-Matched Organoid Drug Screens.”
The University of Wisconsin Precision Medicine Molecular Tumor Board assesses treatment options for patients state-wide. These samples are also used to screen drugs in patient-derived cancer organoids using changes in organoid diameter and changes in metabolism measured with autofluorescence microscopy. Combined metrics of organoid diameter and metabolism provide a sensitive method to predict patient treatment responses.
