University of Illinois Cancer Center member and UI Health medical oncologist Frank Weinberg, MD, PhD, was part of an expert panel that developed and published the guideline “Systemic Therapy for Small-Cell Lung Cancer: ASCO-Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) Guideline.”
The guideline provides evidence-based recommendations to practicing clinicians on the management of patients with small-cell lung cancer. It was published in October in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, an American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) journal.
Published Guideline Details
The panel of experts in medical oncology, thoracic surgery, radiation oncology, pulmonary, community oncology, research methodology and advocacy conducted a literature review and identified 95 relevant studies that inform the guideline’s evidence base.
“Evidence-based recommendations were developed to address systemic therapy options, timing of therapy, treatment in patients who are older or with poor performance status, role of biomarkers, and use of myeloid-supporting agents in patients with small-cell lung cancer,” the guideline abstract summarizes.
