Health Equity Summit report puts focus on community engagement

Amgen published findings from its Virtual Health Equity Summit, Disrupting Health Disparities Through Partnership, offering five lessons to increase equity in communities including those served by the University of Illinois Cancer Center.

The report, Building Partnerships to Disrupt Health Barriers, and an accompanying podcast, brings together a wide range of voices to discuss issues around racial equity in healthcare, including Amgen executives, U.S. congresspeople, and disruptive leaders in patient advocacy, social determinants of health and healthcare technology.

Karriem Watson MS, MPH, DHSc, Associate Director of Community Outreach and Engagement at the University of Illinois Cancer Center shared his perspective on the role of patient advocates and the need to build lived experiences from community members into critical decisions about racial equity in healthcare.

Watson and other featured speakers expanded the conversation on Amgen’s special follow-up podcast.
