The Viral Vector Core at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is where cancer researchers and other scientists who use gene delivery in their experiments can request made-to-order viruses or bring in their own to be amplified.
The Core constructs, purifies and titers custom recombinant adenovirus, adeno-associated virus and lentivirus. That work can take anywhere from about a week to a couple of months.
The Department of Physiology and Biophysics in the College of Medicine administers the Core, which is physically located in the lab of University of Illinois Cancer Center Director Jan Kitajewski, PhD, who is Department Head. The Core is operated by Director Seock-Won Youn, PhD, a Research Assistant Professor.
