UI Cancer Center, Mile Square leaders visit Capitol Hill

Mile Square Health Center Executive Director Henry Taylor (sixth from right) presented U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, D-IL (fourth from right), with an award from the National Association of Community Health Centers during the recent NACHC Advocacy Day in Washington. Leaders from the University of Illinois Cancer Center and Mile Square visited Capitol Hill to discuss issues ranging from community health center funding to cancer screenings, and extended prescription coverage, with federal lawmakers. “Mile Square Health Center has always played a leading role in the National Association of Community Health Centers,” said Robert Winn, MD, director of the UI Cancer Center who attended the meeting. “The UI Cancer Center and Mile Square are committed to ensuring that the “C” in community health centers drives everything we do.” In addition to Illinois lawmakers, the UI Cancer Center and Mile Square contingent met with U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), often called “one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced,” who is serving in his 17th term in the House of Representatives.
