Four University of Illinois Cancer Center members were honored by UIC for their outstanding research. The Research, Scholar and Inventor of the Year Awards recognize and celebrate the efforts and commitment of individuals who advance knowledge as well as inspire and promote continued excellence in research and scholarship at UIC. The awards are sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Office of Technology Management.
A ceremony and reception will be held on Wednesday, March 4, to honor the awardees. It will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Michele M. Thompson Rooms of the UIC Student Center West, 828 S. Wolcott Ave.
The winners are:
Joanna Burdette, PhD, Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Programs and Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been honored with the Distinguished Researcher of the Year Award in Basic Life Sciences.
Laura Sanchez, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, was honored with the Rising Star Researcher of the Year Award in Basic Life Sciences.
Bellur S. Prabhakar, Msc., PhD, Professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology; Associate Dean, College of Medicine, was named Inventor of the Year.
Rachel N. Caskey, MD, Associate Professor, Medicine, was honored with the Distinguished Researcher of the Year Award in Clinical Sciences.
