Dr. Larisa Nonn is an Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. She has been at UIC for 12 years and her lab studies prostate cancer prevention. Dr. Nonn’s research focus is the biology of prostate carcinogenesis and dietary prevention of prostate cancer. Specific current interests in the lab are prostate cancer disparities and vitamin D, microRNA-regulatory actions of vitamin D3, and microRNA regulation of prostatic zinc homeostasis and carcinogenesis. They use several specialized and unique techniques and models to query both mechanistic and translational aspects. Dr. Nonn has 14 years of experience in patient-derived primary prostate cell cultures which can be utilized in vitro as preclinical models of benign prostate and prostate carcinogenesis.
Her research is focused on prostate carcinogenesis and the dietary prevention of prostate cancer.
