The popular podcast Prostate Cancer: Real Talk featured University of Illinois Cancer Center member Christine Jovanovic, PhD, MPH, whose research focuses on the benefits of dietary changes and a whole food plant-based diet for Black men diagnosed with localized prostate cancer.
The podcast is hosted by the husband and wife team of El and Shay, who created the platform after prostate cancer affected their lives to build community and share information.
Jovanovic is part of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at the Cancer Center and a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago.
On the podcast, the three discussed the importance of empowering patients through diet, the disparities in prostate cancer occurrence in Black men, and the research study by Jovanovic designed to assess how dietary changes can support men with prostate cancer. Her goal is to, “develop and test behavioral approaches such as eating whole food plant-based diet that empowers communities to engage in their own treatment, while supporting overall health.”
