Gantt latest member of UI Cancer Center

Dr. Gerald Gantt Jr., assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, has joined the University of Cancer Center as a member. Gantt specializes in the treatment of colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anorectal disorders and diverticular disease. His research interests include colorectal cancer genomics, novel surgical techniques and health disparities.

Gantt received his undergraduate degree from Atlanta’s Morehouse College, and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, College Park, Maryland. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut. During his general surgery training he completed a research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, studying cancer stem cells and response to neoadjuvant therapy in rectal cancer. He joined UIC after completing a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County.
