On Thursday, December 14, the University of Illinois Cancer Center will host a free interactive webinar where cancer researchers and leaders, pharmaceutical partners, survivors and community leaders will discuss building trustworthiness in clinical research. The event is the fourth of five panel discussions in the Cancer Center’s Structural Solutions for Diverse Cancer Trials (ASSETS) series.

The event will focus on successful examples of powerful structural solutions to diverse clinical trials, including decentralization of trials across networks and trial implementation in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), safety-net facilities and community hospitals. The conversation will include diverse perspectives, including survivors, patients, community partners, academic leaders and funders/sponsors.

Jan Kitajewski, PhD, is Director of the University of Illinois Cancer Center, the Sweeney Professor of Basic Sciences, and the Head of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Robert Winn, MD, is Director and Lipman Chair in Oncology at the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, Senior Associate for Cancer Innovation, and a Professor of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine for VCU School of Medicine. He is also President of the Association of American Cancer Institutes.

Building Equitable Infrastructure of Inclusive Clinical Trials for Diverse Populations: Academic Leader Perspectives
Academic leaders will highlight best practices and lessons learned in growing an inclusive infrastructure for clinical research, including ensuring equitable multilevel access for diverse populations to trials.
Speakers:
VK Gadi, MD, PhD, is Deputy Director of the University of Illinois Cancer Center and the Professor and Director of Medical Oncology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Marvella Ford, PhD, is Associate Director of Population Science and Community Outreach and Engagement for Hollings Cancer Center and the Professor and Vice Chair of Inclusive Excellence for the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is also the SmartState Endowed Chair for Cancer Disparities Research for South Carolina State University.
Electra Paskett, PhD, is Associate Director for Population Sciences and Community Outreach in the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Marian N. Rowley Professor of Cancer Research, Director of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control in the College of Medicine, and a Professor in the Division of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at the Ohio State University. She is also the Founding Director of the Center for Cancer Health Equity in the James Cancer Hospital.
Mary Salazar, DNP, MSN, ANP-BC, RN, is Director of the Oncology Patient Experience and an Adult Nurse Practitioner in Medical Oncology in the Mays Cancer Center and an Assistant Professor for the School of Nursing and Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas San Antonio. The Mays Cancer Center is an affiliate of the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas.
