The current issue of the journal Surgical Clinics of North America is devoted to updates in the management of breast cancer and includes an article co-authored by University of Illinois Cancer Center Deputy Director VK Gadi, MD, PhD.
Indications for preoperative/neoadjuvant systemic therapy in breast cancer have changed in recent years, and in the article, “Preoperative Systemic Therapy for Breast Cancer,” the authors reviewed current data for the use of neoadjuvant therapy in inoperable and operable settings.
“The evolution of various neoadjuvant regimens used in triple-negative breast cancer, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpressing/gene-amplified (HER2+) tumors, and hormone receptor positive breast cancer is discussed as well as the role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in tailoring adjuvant treatment,” the authors, Gadi and Abhigna Kodali, MD, of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the Maimonides Cancer Center in Brooklyn, New York, wrote.
Their article appeared in the journal’s first bimonthly issue of 2023.
