Dr. Basabi Rana is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. Her research is focused on signal transduction and transcriptional regulation of growth/apoptosis. She has broad background in Cancer Biology, with specific training and expertise in signal transduction and transcriptional regulation of growth/apoptosis.Dr. Ranas interest to study mechanisms that regulate liver growth and differentiation began with her post-doctoral studies at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). Upon joining BUSM as a junior faculty, she had laid the groundwork to elucidate the mechanism by which PPAR regulates proliferation in hepatocytes and HCC cells and had expanded them after joining the faculty of Texas University-HSC. During the course of her career, she has successfully administered different funded projects (personnel, budget) and produced high quality publications from each.Dr. Rana is a collaborative researcher, having established strong working and productive collaborations with basic and clinician scientists from a variety of departments and institutions. Her research is focused on signal transduction and transcriptional regulation of growth/apoptosis.
