Thank You! Coaches vs. Cancer

The University of Illinois Cancer Center thanks everyone who supported the UIC Flames men’s basketball Coaches vs. Cancer game.

The Flames beat Missouri State (63-58) in the February 16 home game, and Flames coaches wore one-of-a-kind shoes painted by UI Health pediatric hematology/oncology patients, doctors, nurses, staff, Flames players and coaches. The Cancer Center, UI Health and UIC Athletics hosted a shoe painting-pizza party in January.

Now, the shoes are being auctioned off in a fundraiser that ends Monday, February 24, at 5 p.m.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

During the televised halftime show, UI Health pediatric hematologist/oncologist Cristiana Hentea, MD, talked about pediatric cancer. She specializes in caring for children with cancers and blood disorders.
