ASPO Pre-Conference Workshop

This pre-conference breakfast workshop will provide networking opportunities for researchers leading and interested in equity in cancer genetic services and precision preventive oncology. The workshop would include roundtable discussions and presentations by researchers, FQHC providers / practitioners, and community partners involved in research to optimize uptake of cancer genetic services. The goal would be to discuss best practices, lessons learned, and future directions for research, practice, and policy, with the opportunity of developing future white papers on this timely topic.

Yamile Molina, MS, MPH, PhD, is Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement at the University of Illinois Cancer Center, Associate Director for Community Engaged Research at UI Health Mile Square Health Center, and an Associate Professor in the Division of Community Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health.

Ian Jasenof, MD, FACOG, MHA, CPE, is the Chief Medical Officer of Mile Square Health Centers and an obstetrician and gynecologist at the Mile Square Health Center-Cicero location.

Kent Hoskins, MD, BA, is Associate Director for Translational Research at the University of Illinois Cancer Center, the Oncology Service Line Medical Director at UI Health, and the Eileen Lindsay Heidrick Professor in Oncology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Lightening Talks and Discussion

Pamela Ganschow, MD, is Director of the Cancer Prevention and Survivorship program and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Illinois Cancer Center.

Vivian Pan, MS, CGC, is a Senior Genetic Counselor for the University of Illinois Cancer Center. She provides cancer genetic counseling services and is engaged in research and policy work surrounding the intersection of genetics and public health – including genetic counseling service delivery models, access issues, and health disparities in genetic counseling and genetic testing.

Jinghua An, PhD, RN, is a postdoctoral research associate at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. She received a PhD in Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research focuses on developing and implementing behavioral interventions to promote cancer prevention and early detection, as well as eliminate cancer disparities.

Kristi Graves, PhD, is a Professor of Oncology and the Associate Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University in Washington DC. Dr. Graves conducts research focused on addressing health disparities in access to genetic services and in cancer survivorship.

Laura Fejerman, PhD, is the Placer Breast Cancer Endowed Chair and Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences, School of Medicine at the University of California Davis. She is the Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement, Director of the Women’s Cancer Care and Research Program (WeCARE), and co-Director of the Latinos United for Cancer Health Advancement (LUCHA) initiative at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Mylynda Massart, MD, PhD, is a board-certified Family Medicine physician at UPMC, and associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh.  She currently serves as the founder and Medical Director of the UPMC Primary Care Precision Medicine clinic, and as the Associate Director of Clinical Services for the Institute for Precision Medicine.  Dr. Massart is co-director for the HUB Core over Research Inclusivity and Community Partners Core at the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CSTI).

Veda Giri, MD, is Professor of Medicine and is a medical oncologist who specializes in clinical cancer genetics. Her research focus has been in developing the field of genetic testing for prostate cancer with a dedication to reducing disparities. She contributes her expertise on several national committees such as NCCN, NCI, and ASCO.

Vida Henderson, PhD, PharmD, MPH, MFA, is an Assistant Professor and Deputy Associate Director of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Her work integrates health communication research and community-engaged approaches to improve access to and utilization of cancer prevention and cancer care services among underrepresented populations.

Autumn Shafer, PhD, is an associate professor at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication. Her research agenda lies at the intersection of communication, social psychology, and health behavior theories to understand how people process and are affected by messages. She often works within interdisciplinary teams to design, implement, and evaluate health promotion campaigns.
