Hayward’s research explores the complex interactions between inflammation, stromal biology and prostatic hyperplasia, with a focus on identifying novel therapeutic targets. His work has been instrumental in understanding how inflammation contributes to benign prostatic hyperplasia and lower urinary tract symptoms, integrating molecular and cellular approaches with translational research. His lab investigates the role of TNF signaling, immune cell infiltration and metabolic changes in the prostate microenvironment. By leveraging preclinical models and patient-derived samples, his research aims to develop more effective, targeted interventions to mitigate inflammation-driven prostatic disease.
The goals for this group include increasing collaborations between urologists and basic and translational researchers; increasing collaborations between public health, basic and translational researchers; and aligning PCWG meetings with clinical GU Oncology Meetings. The ultimate goal is to develop a program project grant for prostate cancer.
The PCWG will take place every third Monday from 4 – 5 p.m.
