Building Trustworthiness in Clinical Research
This FREE interactive event focuses on building trustworthiness in clinical research. We will focus on successful examples of powerful structural solutions to diverse clinical trials, including decentralization of trials across networks and trial implementation in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), safety-net facilities, and community hospitals. Our conversation will include diverse perspectives, including patients, community partners, academic leaders and funders/sponsors.
This is the fourth in a series of five panel discussions on Structural Solutions for Diverse Cancer Trials (ASSETS).

Welcome and Opening Remarks – “Moving into an Era of Multilevel Trustworthiness”
Speakers:
Jan Kitajewski, PhD, is the Director of the University of Illinois Cancer Center, the Sweeney Professor of Basic Sciences, and the Head of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Robert Winn, MD, is the Director and Lipman Chair in Oncology of the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, Senior Associate for Cancer Innovation, and a Professor of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine for VCU School of Medicine. He is also the President of the Association of American Cancer Institutes.

“Building Equitable Infrastructure of Inclusive Clinical Trials for Diverse Populations: Academic Leader Perspectives”
Academic leaders will highlight best practices and lessons learned in growing an inclusive infrastructure for clinical research, including ensuring equitable multilevel access for diverse populations to trials.
Speakers:
VK Gadi, MD, PhD, is the Deputy Director of the University of Illinois Cancer Center and the Professor and Director of Medical Oncology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Marvella Ford, PhD, is the Associate Director of Population Science and Community Outreach and Engagement for Hollings Cancer Center and the Professor and Vice Chair of Inclusive Excellence for the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is also the SmartState Endowed Chair for Cancer Disparities Research for South Carolina State University.
Electra Paskett, PhD, is the Associate Director for Population Sciences and Community Outreach in the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Marian N. Rowley Professor of Cancer Research, Director of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control in the College of Medicine, and a Professor in the Division of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at the Ohio State University. She is also the Founding Director of the Center for Cancer Health Equity in the James Cancer Hospital.

Representatives from the National Institutes of Health and Pharmaceutical Companies will highlight their engagement, investment, and best practices for investing in inclusive clinical research, including ensuring equitable multilevel access for diverse populations to trials.

Karriem Watson, DHSc, MS, MPH, is the Chief Engagement Officer for the All of Us Research Program at the National Institutes of Health.
Rochelle Williams-Belizaire, MPH, CPH, is the Director of Clinical Research Collaborations at Mirati Therapeutics.
Ruma Bhagat MD, MPH, is the Principal Portfolio Leader for Health Equity & Population Science, Product Development at Genentech, Inc. (A Member of the Roche Group).

Providers and clinical research staff will share their perspectives on best practices, successes, and lessons learned in implementing inclusive clinical trials to ensure equitable representation of diverse patient populations.

Arielle Guzmán, MPH, is a Clinical Research Coordinator at the University of Illinois Cancer Center.
Terri Matson, is the Executive Director for Clinical and Translational Research at the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Sara “Betsy” Adams, MD, is the Medical Director of Cancer Services for Tidelands Health.
Mary Salazar, DNP, MSN, ANP-BC, RN, is the Director of the Oncology Patient Experience and an Adult Nurse Practitioner in Medical Oncology in the Mays Cancer Center and an Assistant Professor for the School of Nursing and Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas San Antonio.

Community leaders will discuss the value and importance of inclusive, accessible clinical trials that engage diverse populations and will discuss how they support clinical research systems’ efforts to be worthy and deserving of trust.
