Richard B. Warnecke, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Richard B. Warnecke, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellowship program at the University of Illinois Cancer Center strives to meet an imperative need to train exceptionally talented and diverse scientists engaged in cancer health disparities research. That research must address issues across the cancer continuum from etiology and primary prevention to treatment and survivorship. The award, $15,000 for a one-year period, is named after the late Richard B. Warnecke, PhD, Professor Emeritus, a longtime Cancer Center


Oncogeneralist Training Program

The Oncogeneralist Training Program equips clinicians to address the complex medical and psychosocial needs of cancer survivors and to identify patients who may benefit from enhanced cancer prevention strategies based on personal risk factors or family history. Cancer Education and Career Development Program

The University of Illinois Cancer Center Education and Career Development Program (CECDP) is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded T32 program for predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows. Over two decades, CECDP has prepared several predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows to be successful independent investigators and professionals in cancer disparities research.


B2F – Bridge to the Faculty

The Bridge to Faculty (B2F) program aims to attract and retain promising scholars to UIC. The initiative is designed to support postdoctoral scholars with the goal of a direct transition to a tenure-track junior faculty position after two years. B2F employs a cohort model, where postdoctoral scholars participate together in meetings and tailored workshops to prepare them to teach, establish a research program, and support their ability to pursue grants, as well as create productive mentor relationships.


Lung Biology and Pathobiology Training Program

The Lung Biology and Pathobiology Training Program, supported by the NIH NHLBI, provides predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows training opportunities in comprehensive research in biology and pathobiology of the cardiovascular system and lungs.

The Stimulating Access to Research in Residency (StARR) Program, funded by NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, provides mentored clinical/translational research training in the areas of cardiovascular, pulmonary, or hematologic diseases to internal medicine residents with various backgrounds and experiences to yield highly diverse and skilled physician-investigators in the biomedical sciences.
