Graduate and Professional Degree Students
The University of Illinois Cancer Center provides training and information on programs that introduce graduate and professional students, especially those from underrepresented populations, to cancer-focused education and research.
New Program (2026) – MS of Physiology for Therapeutic Development (MaPTD)
The MS of Physiology for Therapeutic Development (MaPTD) is a newly developed one-year, classroom-based program in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics in the College of Medicine at UIC, designed to prepare students for impactful careers in clinical trial research, implementation and enrollment. The MaPTD provides rigorous education in human physiology and disease, enabling students to translate scientific discoveries into rational, patient-centered trial designs. With this integrated approach, graduates will be uniquely equipped to support and improve clinical trial execution in both academic and biopharmaceutical settings, ultimately enhancing trial enrollment and the development of effective therapies.
Winn CIPP – Robert A. Winn Clinical Investigator Pathway Program
The Robert A. Winn Excellence in Clinical Trials Award Program: Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP) is a six-week summer experience for medical students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds or with a strong personal connection to the cause of promoting community engagement in healthcare. Winn CIPP introduces students early in their training to clinical research and community engagement, preparing future physicians — whether researchers or clinicians — to strengthen clinical trial participation and improve care for all communities.
CECDP – UIC Cancer Education and Career Development Program
The UIC Cancer Education and Career Development Program (CECDP) is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-funded T32 program for predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows. Over two decades, CECDP has prepared predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows to be successful, independent investigators and professionals in cancer disparities research.
Lung Biology and Pathobiology Training Program
The Lung Biology and Pathobiology Training Program, supported by the NHLBI, provides predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows training opportunities in comprehensive research in biology and pathobiology of cardiovascular systems and lungs.
