Luisa DiPietro, DDS, PhD, is a Professor in the Department Periodontics and Director of the Center for Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration in the UIC College of Dentistry, as well as Scientific Advisor for UIC in the Chicago Biomedical Consortium. Her laboratory has a demonstrated and consistent record of accomplishment in the field of skin wound repair, most notably in the examination of the mechanism of scar formation and the roles of acute inflammation and angiogenesis in the healing process. They  have extensive experience in the biochemical, cellular, histological and molecular analyses of wound healing, scar formation, fibrosis and tissue regeneration in both animal models and humans. Their research has important implications for the treatment of poorly healing wounds, including venous ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, hypertrophic scars and fibrotic skin reactions. She maintains a long-standing commitment to the training and mentoring of young scientists, including students and clinical residents in both dental and medical specialties.
