Membership in the Cancer Center (CC) is open to any University of Illinois faculty member who has a cancer research interest and a shared commitment to collaborate with others, to further the scientific goals of the Cancer Center.
There are three membership categories:
This category is for University of Illinois faculty who are actively conducting basic, translational, clinical or population-based cancer research and have recent cancer-related publications in peer-reviewed journals, actively participate in a CC research program or other CC activities, and are primary users of C-sponsored shared resources. Research members are the major focus of descriptions in the Cancer Center Support Grant application that is used when applying for NCI designation. To apply for Research Membership, an individual must be one of the following:
A principal investigator or co-principal investigator on a peer-reviewed, cancer relevant funded research grant (include P01 project leaders)
A principal investigator or an investigator-initiated cancer clinical trial, while accruing a minimum of five patients to clinical trials per year
A principal investigator who is a leader of a national cooperative group clinical trial, while accruing a minimum of five patients to clinical trials per year
This category is for University of Illinois faculty who actively participate in CC research programs and/or other activities and utilize CC shared resources. To apply for Associate Membership, an individual must be one of the following:
- A junior investigator with non-peer reviewed cancer relevant research funding, such as an NIH K award or other career development award, ACS IL award, CC pilot project award. The CC senior leadership and program leaders closely monitor and advise junior investigators with the goal of transitioning them to Research member status within three years.
- A co-investigator on a peer-reviewed, cancer relevant funded research grant
A principal investigator on a local cooperative group trial or industry-initiated trial who accrues a minimum of five patients to clinical trials per year
This category is primarily for the following individuals:
Junior investigators, including non-faculty investigators (such as post-doc trainees, non-tenure track assistant professors, research associates, instructors and other clinical staff actively involved in the research enterprise) with a cancer research interest and/or significant involvement
Full time clinical faculty providing patient care and trial accrual but not involved in initiating their own research initiatives
Tenured University of Illinois faculty who may or may not have extramural funding in other research areas but are interested in transitioning their research from another field into cancer
We are currently revising our membership application and anticipate an application available in the upcoming weeks. Thank you for your patience!
