A UI Health staff food drive is ongoing through September 20 to increase the supply of shelf-stable items to be shared with families in need at a Food and Nutrition Pop-up later this month.
The September 26 pop-up event is for people and their families diagnosed with cancer or another health condition and in need of food assistance. At the free event, people can pick up fresh fruit and vegetables, snacks, spices and meal prep items.
The pop-up event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 26 in the Radiation Oncology Department at the Cancer Clinic in the UI Health Outpatient Care Center (OCC). The entrance is at 1818 W. Taylor St. The event will be held in Room C400.
Staff interested in donating food are asked to bring oatmeal (low-sugar options preferred); pancake mix (regular and sugar-free but no high-fructose flavored syrups); canned chicken or salmon; rice; canned vegetables; dried beans; and snacks that are low-sugar cookies or crackers.
Food donations are encouraged and can be dropped off at the Social Work Office, 1740 W. Taylor St., Room 1155.
