WVON: Colorectal and Kidney Cancer Awareness Month

Monday, March 16, 2026

March is Colorectal and Kidney Cancer Awareness Month, and you can still listen to WVON 1690 AM’s “Dr. in the House with Dr. Terry Mason,” when his guest was University of Cancer Center member Karine Tawagi, MD, a UI Health oncologist specializing in the treatment of genitourinary cancers such as bladder, kidney, testicular and prostate cancers.

Colon cancer survivor Candace Henley, MPH, co-chair of the Cancer Center Community Advisory Board, also joined the segment moderated by UI Health Mile Square Health Center Executive Director and Cancer Center member Karriem Watson, DHSc, MS, MPH. Henley stressed the importance of cancer screening and discussed her work as Founder of The Blue Hat Foundation.

The segment aired on March 1. The first Sunday of every month is the Cancer Center and Mile Square segment on "Dr. in the House," where guests discuss cancer research and care, as well as general healthcare and services provided at UI Health.

The Cancer Center and Mile Square, a Federally Qualified Health Center with a network of clinics in Chicago and Rockford, are both part of UI Health, the academic health system at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).
