WVON: Community Partner Spotlight
Tuesday, April 7, 2026
You can still listen to WVON 1690 AM’s “Dr. in the House with Dr. Terry Mason,” when the Community Partner Spotlight guest was Karen Hall, founder of Cancer Support Transformation and a two-time breast cancer survivor.
The April 5 segment was co-hosted by UI Health Mile Square Health Center Executive Director and Cancer Center member Karriem Watson, DHSc, MS, MPH. The first Sunday of every month is the Cancer Center and Mile Square segment on "Dr. in the House," where guests discuss cancer research and care, as well as general healthcare and services provided at UI Health. The Cancer Center and Mile Square, a Federally Qualified Health Center with a network of clinics in Chicago and Rockford are both part of UI Health, the academic health system at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).
On the show, Hall spoke about the importance of cancer health equity, the training of students to be physicians and researchers, advocacy, and her participation in the Cancer Center's Hope Leaders Program, which connects community organizations and cancer researchers to ensure community health needs inform scientific projects.
