Nobel Prize-winning scientist Harold Varmus, MD, a pioneering cancer researcher and former Director of the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute, visited the Cancer Center and the lab of Director Jan Kitajewski, PhD, who completed his postdoctoral fellowship in molecular oncology working with Varmus at the University of California, San Francisco.

Varmus was at UIC, which includes the Cancer Center, because he was the commencement speaker at the University of Illinois College of Medicine’s 144th ceremony on May 8.
