Survivorship Superheroes Banner in English and Spanish

Cancer survivors, their families and friends, and community organizations joined the University of Illinois Cancer Center to celebrate “Survivorship Superheroes” during an annual Surviving and Thriving event to mark National Cancer Survivors Month in June.

The superhero theme was chosen to reflect the many qualities of cancer survivors: bravery in the face of adversity, unwavering hope, and the power to inspire others.

Participants and community organization members were encouraged to dress in their favorite superhero outfits and costumes for the June 21 event, which was held in an event space at the UIC College of Nursing.

During the event, survivorship milestones were acknowledged and celebrated. Three survivors shared their testimonies, exemplifying what it means to be a superhero survivor.

Community organizations offered fun activities to engage participants while providing resources, including bouquet-making, bracelet-making, handprint painting, vision boards and raffles.
