Cancer Center Members, Trainee Honored

University of Illinois Cancer Center members Salman Khetani, PhD, and Robert Motl, PhD, and trainee member A'Lester Allen, PhD, were among those honored by the UIC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research with its 2025-26 Research and Scholarship Awards.
Featured in UIC Today, they and the other honorees are recognized as outstanding representatives of the UIC community whose drive to solve problems and expand knowledge creates local and global impact. The Cancer Center is part of UIC and its academic health enterprise, UI Health.
Khetani was recognized as the Distinguished Researcher in Natural Sciences and Engineering. A member of the Cancer Center's Cancer Biology Research Program, he is the Robert Uyetani Collegiate Professor, Associate Department Head, and Director of Graduate Studies in the Richard and Loan Hill Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Colleges of Engineering and Medicine.
Motl was recognized as the Distinguished Researcher in Clinical Sciences. A member of the Cancer Center's Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program, he is a Professor in the Departments of Kinesiology and Nutrition, and Rehabilitation Sciences at the College of Applied Health Sciences.
Allen was recognized as the Postdoctoral Scholar of the Year. A trainee member of the Cancer Center, he is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Retzky College of Pharmacy.
