Best of ASCO Africa 2026

The University of Illinois Cancer Center and Cancer Center member Abiola Ibraheem, MD, who is the North American Vice President for the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), again helped to put on another Best of ASCO Africa Conference, this time in Nigeria.
About 200 people attended the 2026 Africa Conference held in July in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, with Ibraheem serving as one of the Conference Chairs. In 2025, the Cancer Center and Ibraheem helped with the Best of ASCO Africa Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital.
Best of ASCO conferences feature abstracts and slides from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting held in late spring in Chicago. During this year's annual ASCO meeting, Ibraheem, a physician-scientist, helped lead discussions on global cancer collaboration at an AORTIC event.
A member of the Cancer Center’s Translational Oncology Research Program, she is a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer at UI Health, the academic health system of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), which includes the Cancer Center. Her global oncology initiatives include serving as Principal Investigator on global breast cancer clinical trials and directing the Global Oncology Program in the Cancer Center.
