The University of Illinois Cancer Center wishes to thank everyone who helped make our second annual 5K Walk/Run a success and for supporting our mission to improve cancer health outcomes for all!

The 5K stepped off with 225 participants at UIC’s Curtis Granderson Stadium, and the former MLB All-Star and UIC alum was on hand for the September 20 event. The Cancer Center is part of UIC and its academic health enterprise, UI Health.

The contributions of 11 sponsors and 33 volunteers helped make the event possible.

“What a great day for our Cancer Center and all who were involved in making the run such a huge success,” said UIC Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Robert A. Barish, MD, MBA.

5K top finishers in 2025

The top finishers were Lauren Rush and Joseph Walewski in first place; Rose Campbell-Watt and Francis Felix in second place; and Dahee Wi and Khang Tran in third place.
