New ad campaign educating public on clinical trial diversity

The Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP) has developed a new advertising campaign to educate diverse communities about clinical research and how participating in clinical trials is critical to discovering new treatments for everyone.

The full-page advertisement has been published in five different diverse newspapers – both print and digital – in major cities across the United States reaching more than one million individuals in the Black, African American, Hispanic and Latino communities. The publications are:

  • The Weekly Citizen, Chicago
  • Michigan Chronicle, Detroit
  • New York Amsterdam, New York City
  • The Atlanta Voice, Atlanta
  • Excelsior, Los Angeles

“Diversity in clinical trials brings new treatments to everyone,” reads the title of the advertisement, with the text adding: “Participation in clinical trials not only helps patients gain access to new medical therapies but also advances knowledge about how treatments work safely and effectively in the diverse communities represented in those clinical trials. Visit medicalheroes.org to learn more.”

Several pharmaceutical companies sponsored the advertisement: Merck, Janssen, Biogen, Alkermes and Boehringer Ingelheim.

Based in Boston, CISCRP is a non-profit organization founded in 2003 and dedicated to educating the public and patients and to engage these critical stakeholders as partners in the clinical research process. The advertisement can be downloaded in both English and Spanish here: https://www.ciscrp.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Patient-Diversity-Ad.pdf
