Dr. Vida Henderson

Dr. Vida Henderson is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the School of Public Health. She is an early stage investigator with over 18 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist with a focus on minority health and health disparities research. Her primary goal is to ameliorate gender and racial health disparities and inequities by exploring associations between the social determinants of health, mental health, and behavioral outcomes utilizing mixed methodology. Currently, she serves as a Research Scientist under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Winn at the University of Illinois Cancer Center, Office of Community Engagement and Research Implementation Science. In this role, Dr. Henderson serves as Co-PI on a mammogram utilization and navigation program funded by the Chicago Department of Public Health ); Co-I on a patient centered outcomes research project; Co-PI on a health systems data project aimed at increasing breast and cervical cancer screening rates at Mile Square clinics; and she leads the multi-method qualitative research methodology and intervention development. Prior to this role, she received a NIH/NIA R36 Aging Research Dissertation Award to Increase Diversity to fund her mixed methods study aimed at assessing the relationship between psychological well-being and use of preventive care services in midlife African American women. She has considerable experience in conducting community-engaged, women’s health, and health communication research utilizing mixed methodology and is recognized as having extensive expertise in qualitative methodology. Her experience working as a pharmacist for several years in a number of settings, including: academia, clinical, long-term health care, and retail provided a firm foundation that enhances my public health training.
