Young-Mee Kim, PhD, is Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UIC. Her research focuses on defining whether muscle vascular function contributes to the loss of muscle mass observed in cancer cachexia. Cachexia is characterized by body weight loss due to extensive skeletal muscle wasting with or without adipose tissue loss. Many cancer patients experience cachexia symptoms, which contribute to poor quality of life and increased mortality.
