Teruyuki Sano, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). The gut microbiome has been recognized as promoters to increase anti-tumor immunity during checkpoint inhibitor treatments. On the other hand, the gut microbiome can be highly associated with tissue inflammation including autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Our goals are to categorize the human microbiome to promote anti-tumor immunity and contribute to the treatment-induced immune-related adverse events.
