Salman Khetani, PhD, is the Robert Uyetani Collegiate Professor, Associate Department Head and Director of Graduate Studies in the Richard and Loan Hill Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Colleges of Engineering and Medicine at UIC. His Microfabricated Tissue Models Laboratory develops advanced human liver models to study how metastatic cancers (e.g., colorectal, breast) alter liver metabolism and how liver function shapes cancer progression, immune response, therapeutic efficacy and off-target toxicity. The lab focuses on how hepatic metabolism activates or deactivates cancer therapies, including small molecules and immunotherapies. Their patient-relevant platforms support team science and offer a unique shared resource to accelerate precision oncology.
