Lusine Demirkhanyan, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, which is part of UIC. Her lab operates at the intersection of neurobiology, data science, and oncology. Our unified mission is to decode the biological mechanisms of complex disorders to drive earlier diagnosis and more effective, equitable treatments. Her work involves anti-cancer therapies that leverage innate microRNA machinery. Her lab uses the circularized microRNAs to target pro-angiogenic molecules in pancreatic cancer. They are working on development of a predictive diagnostic algorithm for early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, as well.
