Kaori Yamada, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine and Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UIC. She investigates regulation mechanisms of vascular functions, especially angiogenesis and vascular leakage in cancer metastasis. The Yamada Lab focuses on intracellular molecule trafficking by kinesin family molecular motors. Their strategy of regulating trafficking of a receptor for growth factor effectively suppresses angiogenesis, vascular leakage and cancer metastasis. They will investigate the mechanisms further and develop this strategy for preventing cancer metastasis. Her work includes better understanding of how eye melanoma spreads and how to stop it.
