Joanne Tobacman, MD, is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Academic Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UIC. Her lab studies the role of N-acetylgalactosamine-4-sulfatase (Arylsulfatase B; ARSB), which acts on the sulfated glycosaminoglycan chondroitin 4-sulfate. They have shown the effects of decline in ARSB on tumor promotion and the benefit of increased ARSB on tumor suppression, most recently in melanoma.
