Jie Liang, PhD, is the Richard and Loan Hill Professor of Bioengineering in the Richard and Loan Hill Department of Biomedical Engineering at UIC His research is focused on database/tools for inference and cancer mutations. Research in his lab has focused on constructing quantitative models and developing computational tools to study biological systems for gaining an understanding of how living systems work. His lab has developed state-of-the-art tools for computing protein binding pockets and voids, as well as general metric measurements based on the alpha shape theory and dual complexes. The Computed Atlas of Surface Topography of proteins (CASTp) web server, developed in his lab, is widely used by structural biologists. The lab has significant experience in developing models and algorithms for sampling chain polymers, and has also developed algorithms for the reconstruction of ensemble 3D structures of chromosomes.
