Hui Han, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UIC. In chronic liver diseases, a protein called osteopontin influences disease progression. Specialized immune cells known as macrophages play a crucial role in the development of both metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and many studies have reported that macrophages produce more osteopontin in the context of MASH and HCC. His work aims to investigate the role of macrophages with high expression of osteopontin in MASH-induced HCC.
