Gary Mo, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UIC. Pyroptosis is an acute form of cell death. While its dysfunction may be expected to be relevant to tumor growth, its hyperactivation can have direct and therapeutic use in killing cancer cells. Research by the Mo Lab on the basic biochemistry of pyroptosis can help us understand how best to utilize and treat such a double-edged sword.
