Gail Prins, PhD, is Michael Reese Professor of Urology and Physiology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and co-leader of the University of Illinois Cancer Center Prostate Cancer Working Group. She is also Director of the University Andrology Laboratory at UI Health, which provides all forms of male infertility testing, in addition to operating a patient sperm banking program. Her basic research program has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for more than 25 years and focuses on prostate gland development, prostate stem cells, hormonal carcinogenesis, endocrine disrupting chemicals and the fetal basis of adult prostate disease. Her other research is translational work on human sperm cryopreservation, which led to the development of an optimal sperm freezing system used throughout the globe for both donor and surgically retrieved patient samples. She has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed manuscripts, as well as book chapters and position papers.
