Franklin Njoku, MD, MPH, is Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), and he practices at UI Health, specializing in the treatment of sickle cell disease (SCD). He is interested in studying the incidence of cancer in adults with SCD in the setting of increasing longevity of individuals with SCD. Recently, improved specialized care, routine follow-up, novel pharmacological agents, and curative stem cell transplant have resulted in a rise in life expectancy for individuals with SCD. He is also interested in the biological mechanisms of cancer that are particular to SCD patients.
