Dr. Ayman Al-Hendy is a practicing Gynecologist-Scientist and serves as the Director of Translational Research, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He is particularly familiar with the national trend in which women elect to start their families and/or planned pregnancy at a delayed age.
As a fibroid researcher, he frequently faces this dilemma, addressing the uterine fibroid-related health problems while preserving the patient’s fertility potential. He has been investigating the pathogenesis of uterine fibroids and the risk factors associated with its higher prevalence in women of color, for the past 23 years.
A large amount of Dr. Al-Hendy’s research is conducted to find non-surgical treatment fertility-preserving options to improve the quality of life of women who are afflicted or prone to this common disease.
His research focuses on leiomyoma, LAM patient treatment and non-surgical fertility preservation.
