Alana Biggers, MD, MPH, FACP, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Academic Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UIC, and she practices at UI Health. She specializes in the general internal medicine care of adults and older adults. Her areas of interest include preventive health, chronic disease management, health maintenance and prevention, women’s health services and adult cancer survivors. In 2023, she and co-Principal Investigator (PI) Lisa Tussing-Humphreys, PhD, MS, RD, co-leader of the Cancer Center Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program, were awarded a grant from the Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (ChicagoCHEC) to provide an opportunity to apply knowledge gained on mindfulness-based interventions in colorectal cancer prevention among high-risk African American women. With a broad background in both public health and medicine, she is also PI of the My ESSENCE study, a study that will determine if mindfulness meditation can help reduce stress, improve sleep and reduce cardiovascular risk.
